About

Why Croatia?

Croatia's Dalmatian coast runs for hundreds of kilometres, offering walled cities, quiet islands and the clearest water in the Mediterranean.

For a solo traveller, the route from Split southward to Dubrovnik, with island detours, provides structure, beauty and a rhythm that never feels forced.

Solo travel

Why it works.

Split and Hvar have a lively, social atmosphere that suits solo travel well. Island life slows things down pleasantly; the ferry network makes moving between stops simple and scenic.

Where to base yourself

Best areas.

Split & Trogir

The central hub, Diocletian's Palace still feels lived-in, not preserved.

Hvar & Vis

Hvar for sociability and lavender fields; Vis for quiet, local and beautiful.

Dubrovnik

The walled city, best experienced early morning and outside peak season.

When to go

June and September are ideal, warm enough to swim, calm enough to enjoy the old towns. July and August are beautiful but busy; May and October are quieter and still warm.

Getting around

Catamarans and ferries link Split, the islands and Dubrovnik well. Alma will time the connections so the route flows naturally without rushed transfers.
