Germany
Medieval market towns, castle routes and excellent coffee.
Why Germany?
Germany is one of Europe's most underrated destinations for the solo female traveller, safe, well-connected, with a café and culture scene that makes each city worth spending time in.
The range is extraordinary: the creative intensity of Berlin, the Baroque grandeur of Dresden, the Christmas-market atmosphere of Nuremberg, the mountains of Bavaria, each chapter a different country.
Why it works.
Germany's cities are exceptionally solo-friendly: excellent public transport, a deep café culture and well-organised tourism infrastructure. Berlin and Munich in particular have thriving food and arts scenes where a woman alone at a restaurant or gallery is entirely unremarkable.
Best areas.
Berlin
The most culturally alive city in Europe, museums, galleries and a food scene that never sleeps.
Bavaria & the Alps
Neuschwanstein, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and mountain lakes in summer.
The Rhine Valley
Vineyard-covered slopes, medieval castles and river cruises.
May and June for warmth and long evenings without peak-season crowds. September and October bring the harvest season, autumn colour and the run-up to Christmas markets. December is magical. July and August are busy but lively.
Germany's rail network is excellent, fast trains connect Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt easily. Within cities, trams and metro are reliable. Alma will plan connections so inter-city travel feels like part of the journey.
