About

Why The Greek Islands?

The Greek islands are as varied as they are numerous. Away from the most photographed sunsets, there are quieter islands built for swimming, walking and long, slow meals by the water.

For a solo traveller, the appeal is the ease of it: warm hospitality, simple pleasures and days that ask very little of you beyond deciding which cove to swim in.

Solo travel

Why it works.

Smaller islands like Naxos, Paros and Milos are relaxed and easy to navigate, with harbour towns where eating alone at a taverna is completely normal and warmly received.

Where to base yourself

Best areas.

A harbour-town base

Central, sociable and walkable to dinner and the ferry.

A quieter island for slowness

Naxos or Milos for space, swimming and fewer crowds.

A wellness-focused stay

For a restorative chapter, sea, yoga and simple food.

When to go

May, June, September and early October bring warm sea and calmer islands. July and August are hot and busy; the shoulder months suit a slower solo trip best.

Getting around

Ferries link the islands; smaller islands are best explored with a scooter or a short taxi hop. Harbour towns are walkable. Alma will map ferry timings so connections feel calm rather than rushed.
