About

Why India?

India is vast, vivid and endlessly layered. The Rajasthan circuit alone could fill a month; so could Kerala's backwaters. For a solo traveller, the key is focus: a well-curated route through a region, rather than a frantic cross-country tick-list.

The combination of Mughal heritage, living temple culture, palace hotels and an exceptional food scene makes India one of the world's most rewarding solo destinations when the groundwork is done properly.

Solo travel

Why it works.

India is extremely welcoming to solo female travellers, particularly in heritage cities, Rajasthan and the south. Choosing well-located, reputable accommodation makes a significant difference to the ease and confidence of the trip. Alma selects stays that suit solo travel specifically.

Where to base yourself

Best areas.

Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer — forts, palaces and the most distinctive hospitality in Asia.

Kerala

Backwater houseboat stays, spice plantations, Ayurvedic retreats and a coast of quiet beauty.

Delhi & Agra

The Mughal heartland: Old Delhi's lanes, the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal at dawn.

When to go

October to March for most of India. Kerala's monsoon (June to August) is beautiful if you embrace it. Rajasthan can be very hot in summer — Alma will plan the timing and route to match the conditions for your travel dates.

Getting around

A well-planned mix of private transfers, domestic flights and the scenic train network. Alma maps the logistics so every connection is comfortable and the journey between places adds to the experience rather than detracting from it.
