About

Why Poland?

Poland is experiencing a cultural moment, Warsaw has become one of Europe's most vibrant and unexpected food and arts cities, while Kraków's medieval old town remains among the continent's most beautiful, and best preserved.

For a solo traveller, both cities offer excellent infrastructure, a warm and sociable culture and a depth of history that gives each day real substance.

Solo travel

Why it works.

Polish cities are exceptionally welcoming for solo female travellers. Kraków's compact old town means everything is walkable, and the café and bar culture is easy and social. Warsaw's creative energy and international feel make it a natural solo destination.

Where to base yourself

Best areas.

Kraków old town & Kazimierz

The medieval centre and the Jewish quarter, Poland's most beautiful city, on foot.

Warsaw's Praga & Powiśle

The capital's creative, reinvented quarters, galleries, coffee shops and excellent restaurants.

The Tatra Mountains & Zakopane

The mountain resort with access to Poland's most dramatic hiking.

When to go

May, June and September are ideal, warm, good light and manageable crowds. December brings beautiful Christmas markets and snow in the Tatras. Winter is cold but the cities are atmospheric.

Getting around

Trains connect Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław quickly and comfortably. Cities are best explored on foot or by tram. Alma will structure the route so inter-city travel feels like part of the journey.
