Puglia
Olive groves, swimming coves and masserie mornings.

Why Puglia?
Puglia is Italy at a gentler tempo, a landscape of silver olive groves, dry-stone walls and small baroque towns the colour of bleached bone.
It rewards travellers who like to base themselves somewhere beautiful and move slowly: a restored masseria, a handful of towns, and long afternoons by the sea.
Why it works.
The whitewashed towns of Ostuni, Lecce and the Valle d'Itria are walkable and welcoming. A base in a masseria gives structure and company to a solo trip, with breakfasts, gardens and easy day trips.
Best areas.
Valle d'Itria
Trulli country, central for the prettiest towns and the best masserie.
Ostuni
The 'white city' on a hill, walkable and lively in the evenings.
Lecce & the Salento
Baroque architecture inland, clear water and coves to the south.
Late May, June and September bring warm sea and quieter towns. July and August are hot and busy on the coast; spring is green and gentle inland.
A hire car is genuinely useful here to reach the masserie and coves, and roads are quiet. Towns themselves are walkable once you arrive.
