Scotland
Vast skies, loch reflections and whisky by a peat fire.

Why Scotland?
Scotland's Highlands are best understood as a landscape to move through slowly. The distances are long but the roads are quiet, and around each corner is another loch, another glen or another sky that earns a stop.
The islands, Skye, Mull, Orkney, each add their own character, from dramatic sea cliffs to Neolithic stone circles to white Atlantic beaches.
Why it works.
Scotland is exceptionally safe and welcoming for solo female travellers. The pub and inn culture provides natural warmth and company, and a self-drive journey is manageable and deeply rewarding.
Best areas.
Glencoe & the Great Glen
The most dramatic Highland scenery, a night at each end of Loch Ness.
The Isle of Skye
The Cuillin, the Fairy Pools and a landscape that earns its reputation.
Orkney
A quieter island with remarkable Neolithic sites and big Atlantic light.
May to September for long days and the best chance of clear weather. August brings midges, pack repellent. October brings stunning colour. Winter is dramatic and quiet, but some roads close.
A hire car is essential. Roads are often single-track with passing places, easy once you know the rhythm. Alma will structure the route so daily drives are rewarding rather than exhausting.
