About

Why London & the UK?

London is one of the world's great solo-travel cities: endlessly walkable by neighbourhood, rich with free museums and galleries, and with a café and restaurant culture that never makes eating alone feel anything other than a pleasure.

Beyond the city, the UK opens into equally compelling territory, the Cotswolds, Cornwall, Edinburgh's Old Town and the Lake District offer very different chapters to a London base.

Solo travel

Why it works.

London is one of the most solo-friendly cities in the world. Its neighbourhood structure, Marylebone, Notting Hill, Shoreditch, Borough, rewards slow, foot-based exploration. The park culture, the gallery culture and the pub culture all work beautifully for a solo traveller.

Where to base yourself

Best areas.

Marylebone & Fitzrovia

Independent shops, excellent restaurants and a calm, elegant neighbourhood feel.

South Bank & Borough

Tate Modern, Borough Market and the river walk, endlessly rewarding on foot.

The Cotswolds or Cornwall

For a countryside or coastal chapter, honey-stone villages or wild Atlantic coast.

When to go

May and June for long evenings and the parks at their best. September and October bring crisp light and fewer tourists. December is magical for the city's atmosphere. Summer is lively but busy.

Getting around

London's tube and bus network is excellent; the city is best explored by neighbourhood on foot. National Rail connects the Cotswolds, Cornwall, Bath and Edinburgh easily. Alma will structure day trips so they feel rewarding rather than rushed.
